Italy Day 7 - July 2nd Assisi - Pompeii - NaplesWe were up at dawn for a long drive from Assisi to Naples and Pompeii. Lots of colourful sun flower fields and hair styles from our fellow travellers on the way. A highlight was crossing the ancient Appian way just outside Naples. Pompeii was wonderful, with Vesuvius lowering in the background. It was far better preserved than we imagined with graffiti scratched into the walls, fast food joints, colourful signs and a well restored brothel, with stone beds and rather graphic frescoes on the walls. There was quite a line too it, proving not much changes in 2000 years. Pompeii is huge and it has only been partly excavated. We only had time to see a fraction of it in our 90 minute tour. We then got back on the bus for a trip to the Port of Naples to board the ferry for the overnight trip to Sicily. The ferry was very big and comfortable, with restaurants, bars and discos. Our cabin was tiny with double bunks, but I slept well. Great sunset over Naples as we left port.
