Day 35 - Saturday 4th June 2005Leaving Venice today, packed our luggage and caught the water bus to the car park to pick up our car. Lovely weather again. Loaded up and headed for Slovenia, kept off the motorway to find a place to reattach the number plate, which had come adrift, coming from Milan. Sergio, at Cadamuro Design, a manufacturer of pretty hot aerodynamic body kits in Musile-di-Piave helped us out and sent us on our way with our number plate firmly affixed. Left Italy and entered Slovenia with a minimum of fuss. Border guard standing beside the road glanced at our passports and just waved us on. We arrived in Ljubljana early in the afternoon and after a bit of touring around the city streets found a nice hotel. The Grand Hotel Union in Miklosiceva Street, just behind the Church of the Annunciation on from Preseren Square. Very comfortable spot, our room is large and with free broadband internet, and is on the seventh floor with a great view of the old town and the hill top castle. We had a late lunch and then went for a walk along the river and stopped for a big beer at one of the riverside bars. Booked a walking tour of the town for 6PM. Walking tour was very interesting, conducted by a young Slovenian girl, whose English was excellent. The tour included the hill top castle but fortunately we rode up to that in a little train. Had to walk down though. Tour finished about 8:30 so we found a spot along the river for some dinner. My wallet is much relieved, prices are very reasonable, especially compared with the absurdly high Venice prices. Dinner was excellent, we watched a wandering choir singing on one of the bridges, they were very good. After a long day we went off back to our room for some welcome sleep. There was much partying and music in the square until quite late.
