Italy Day 4 - June 29th - Florence and VeniceAn earlyish start today to beat the heat. We headed off on a guided tour of Florence. The bus dropped us off and we walked to the Duomo, then on through the narrow streets to Signoria Square and the various sculptures including the replica David in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. Our next highlight was the Santa Croce Basilica which contains the tombs of a number of Florentine notables including Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. The guided tour was very informative and entertaining. We then had some free time. Antonio suggested some emporiums and Judy bought a nice gold necklace and some comfortable sandals for the extensive walking. We then crossed the Ponte Vecchio with its fabulous jewellery shops, had a light lunch and returned past the Uffizi to pick up the bus for our trip to Venice. Our hotel was the Plaza in Mestre, on the mainland. Dinner was at the hotel and was adequate.
