Setting Off

Tuesday - 8th June
Departed at 10:30am after a leisurely final packing and final instructions to younger son, who will be minding our house and our dog Tinkerbell while we travel.  Headed out the Western Hwy, fairly light traffic and good driving conditions.  Took the Scenic Route round the Wind Turbine farm (past Beaufort) and lunched at one of the viewing areas.  Pretty spectacular.
Dropped in on my cousin, Wally, for a cuppa and a chat,  he’s the parish priest at St. Patrick's in Stawell.  He showed us over his church with its spectacular altar and beautiful stained glass.  He then took us on quick tour of Stawell including to the lookout and to the local very mechanised gold mine.
We left their late in the afternoon and with the setting sun making driving difficult we stopped for the night at the Wimmera Lakes CP in Horsham.
Nice grassy sites, they gave us 2 sites so we could stay hooked up.  Nice and friendly, facilities good.

 Wednesday - 9th June
Departed Horsham at 9:30am (slept in), new mattress overlay is amazingly comfortable. Fairly heavy rain had set in so decided to head for Adelaide.  Stopped for lunch in  Tintinara met Ross and his wife who are also doing the western ½ loop.
Lots of rain so decided to head on further north.  Overnighted at Pt. Wakefield CP.
Nice park, lots of permanents, ablutions block clean and heated.

Thursday - 10th June
Departed Pt. Wakefield around 9:00am and headed for Pt. Augusta, checked in to the Shoreline CP for 2 nights.  Warned to keep belongings secure.  One of our friends had an attempted break-in of his van while we were there.  They got the outer door open but didn’t get through the inner door.   Set up, then did a bit of a tour around Pt. Augusta, weather starting to fine up. Look out in old water tower gave a great view of area.  Spent some time at the Wadlata Outback Centre, very informative and interesting then went down to the docks to watch the sunset and the dolphins.
